Ending of Space Shuttle Program an Economic Disaster for Space Coast

Cape Canaveral, FL - The achievements at Kennedy Space Center have been spectacular from launching the first man on the moon, Neal Armstrong to International Space Station (ISS) now orbiting the earth. However, as the space shuttle program winds down, Florida’s Space Coast is faced with enormous layoffs.

How many Space Shuttle launches are left? There are four remaining Space Shuttle launches from Cape Canaveral.

Cypress Gardens Veteran Bill Sims Returns as Park Reopens

Winter Haven, FL - The Florida Tourism Economy is being battered however some investors remain optimistic. Shuttered since November, Cypress Gardens located near other top Orlando attractions reopened March 28 with a former park veteran at the helm, attraction officials said. Bill Sims, introduced by owners Brian Philpot and Rob Harper as leader of the attraction’s new management team, said Florida’s first theme park will open in time for spring break. The announcement was made during a 10 a.m. news conference at the Greater Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce building downtown.

Sims is a former executive vice president of Cypress Gardens who worked with the founding Pope family from the early 1970s until 1985, when the park was sold for the first time. He also is the former chief executive officer and executive vice president of the Silver Springs attraction near Ocala, a former executive with Weekee Wachee Spring Hill and a former state tourism representative.

Jacksonville, FL — The military-to-civilian recruiting firm RecruitMilitary will present a free hiring event for job seekers who have military backgrounds on Thursday, December 6, at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. This event, the RecruitMilitary Career Fair, will be open to veterans who already have civilian work experience, men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses. More than 25 veteran-friendly organizations will conduct one-on-one interviews with the job seekers–organizations that will include corporate employers, law-enforcement agencies and other government employers, educational institutions, veterans service agencies, and veterans associations. The career fair hours will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
